RESEARCH
The research will focus on the ways in which the effects of Climate Change can affect mental health, with a particular focus on people with pre-existing mental illness or at risk of developing mental illness.
Specifically, it will include:
- Bibliographic review and data collection: A review of the literature based on current academic journals on the effects of climate change on mental health, with a particular focus on people with pre-existing mental health difficulties.
- Qualitative Research: Basic research to study the effects of climate change on people with mental illness. The focus group method will be used to investigate research questions / hypotheses and collect data. The data will be collected through a semi-structured interview process that will be conducted at group level.
- Quantitative Research: Basic research to study the effects of climate change on individuals in vulnerable groups. The field research method (research analysis) will be used to investigate the research questions / hypotheses. The goal is to collect primary data from Mental Health Structures.
The qualitative and quantitative research will be implemented with the help of the project’s cooperation partners the ARGO Federation, with the involvement of Mental Health organizations from all over Greece, and the Municipality of Nea Smyrni, regarding the dissemination of the research results in the wide field of Attica.

“EnvironMental Adaptation” is in line with the National Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change , in the framework of the Funding Program “NATURAL ENVIRONMENT & INNOVATIVE ACTIONS” “Innovative Actions with Citizens” Green Fund, entitled “EnvironMental Adaptation” in the context of Priority A.1 Climate Change on the Axis A.1.4 Promotion of actions adaptation of vulnerable social groups for a socially equitable adaptation to climate change.

The program is part of the Green Fund, whose partnership consists of IASIS NGO, as project coordinator, the University of Western Macedonia and KINITRO NGO. The Climate Crisis has a significant impact on people’s mental health and quality of life. Thus, the project aims to support mental health providers, as well as people with mental disabilities themselves, to cope with emergencies arising from Climate Crisis.
